Why not use a standard glass tank and then add glass baffles/dividers? It would be a lot cheaper. Unless, of course, you had something more custom in mind, which is easier to accomplish with acrylic (i.e. drilling).

For divider, it does not matter what is the material. People use casted, extruded, lexan, and even regular glass panel inside either glass or acrylic tank.

I would use an old glass tank and add glass dividers, or acrlic tank with acrylic divider. The latter is easier to drill. But if the sump has to be special size, and you need to have it custom-made, then go with casted acrylic.

What do you want to do

Old scratched and banged glass tanks can be had for chump change at mom and pop pet stores sometimes. Especially if it has a crack in it

Just my suggestions.

GE Polymershapes carries the three top names in cell cast acrylic; Plexi-Glas G, Acrylite GP, and Polycast. If you are going to DIY, these are the names to buy. That said, if the sump/fuge can be a standard sized tank, I'd go along w/ others and suggest you get a used tank (glass or acrylic) and modify it to suit your needs by adding baffles, etc...

Try something equal to Acryllite FF, a 4 x 8 x .236" sheet cost me 92USD at Midland Plastics in WI. I used same on my DIY refugium/sump that I just put into operation. See pics of tank & sump below. Aquarium light was also a DIY project.

Problem with FF is that it's extruded acrylic and being so - cannot handle the stresses that cell cast acrylic can. Not to say it *can't* work as obvioulsy - it can, just that the extra 20-25% for the cell cast material is money *well* spent IMO as an insurance policy.

I designed/built my own sump/fuge. I ordered custom cut 1/4" acrylic from Delvies plastics(google it). Just make sure you look at "true" size measurements on the website. 1/4" really measure ~0.235" (or something close to that). the edges on one side are a bit long  . I spent $110 with shipping for all the custom cut acrylic and weld-on to make it. My sump/fuge ended up being ~20 gallons. Here's the link to my DIY sump.
