having searched and not finding, the mother of invention visited me, im sure this has been done but thought i would post anyway.
suspend tubing from nylon line to ceiling, hang about 5 or 6 lbs from the bottom. start it spinning and apply heat gun or torch at the length you desire, when correct temp reached the warmed spot will start to look a little waspwaisted. gently pull down on lower part and maintain pressure, reheat as needed to achieve desired taper, i found that by using a tshirt and forefinger and thumb the restriction can be as tight as wanted. note the tubing gets thinner where stretched so use thicker wall if needed, keeping it spinning stops hotspots ensureing an even cone, have fun

The taper seem a bit too much for a skimmer... you know it will make it less easy to clean, and you may not be able to get as wet of a skimmate if you did not taper it?

8O That is one heck of a beckett!

For the wetness, if the skimmate is too clear (slight yellowish tint) then it is definitely too wet. How dry/wet it should be is really a matter of personal preference. I usually goes for something like a strong coffee without creamer added.
