My husband is thinking about making a chiller for my tank for next summer.. he was asking which kinds of metal would be safe with a salt water tank.. I am assuming he is meaning for the water to circulate through the chiller.. but that's just a guess on my part...

Thanks!

Titanium is the only metal you should use. There's a few grades/alloys and I'm not sure which one is good for full immersion in salt water.

There are a few grades of stainless that would work as well.

Titanium CP grades should be fine. Softer too, so easier to work with.

silly question....can't you just buy one of those 50 dollar fridge's, and drill hole/holes through it, and run some plastic hose/pvc through it in a coil fashion?
you could probably regulate the temperature somewhat with the refrigerator's own temp adjustment.
and then do a test run and if it's way too cold or hot, just remove/add some hose.

People suggest that for decades, but it is just not efficient, and the fridge's compressor is under sized for what it need to do.
