2x4's, nails, Plywood, Paint, you could change the nails to screws and use glue as well if you want a little extra support.

If i wasn't a idiot and didn't erase my "Paint program" i would show you a diagram of a basic stand made from these materials. Good luck with your project.

In my opinion definately use a good wood glue, screws are way better than nails, 2x4 aren't neccessary but use them if it will help you sleep at night.

This stand was built using pocket screws and biscuit joints out of furniture grade yellow pine 1x's.

If you want to save money on wood do what I did. #1 (definately ask the job supervisor first) go to a construction site around your house where they are building new homes and look in the dumpsters. You would not believe what they throw away. I picked up a bunch of 2 x 4's and whole and half sheets of plywood that are good for your base and top on your canopy. You might have to pull some nails out but wood filler will patch that right up !! I built 2 stands out of the wood I got from the jobsites around my house and everybody that sees them loves them !!
