I need some insight how to glue pieces of acrylic together, something in which I have never done before.

Essentially I was cleaning my tank and I noticed that my skimmer section of my overflow box has seperated on one of the corners. So you understand that this could be quite troublesome if the power blew.

I figure I have two options - A get a new overflow box or fix the one that I have. Since my tank is firmly against the wall and I imagine it will not move anytime soon, I need to stick with an overflow box no more than 3 inches on the back side of the tank - i have not seen new models that present this size so far.

So, what type of glue do I use to fix the seam? Is this something that is an easy fix or is it something that would be worth investing in a new overflow?

If you can get it out, you can try to use super glue. But the best way to repaire it, if the seam is clean and neat, is by using WeldOn solvent.

Check Ebay, I found several skimmer boxes there without having to buy the whole system and the prices were reasonable.

Hold on. did the skimmer box crack away from the (glass?) tank wall, or two pieces of acrylic break?

If it's coming away from the glass box, you can use silicone.

If it's the acrylic-acrylic, you'll need weldon (methylene chloride) to glue it.
