DIY Book?

All,

I'm working on some different book ideas and one that I came up with is a DIY book. What do you think - is a book on "doing things yourself" a bit of an oxymoron? I mean, do tinkerers really need/want a book to tell them about it, is part of the fun figuring things out for yourself? My other concern is that some pet stores would be unwilling to stock such a book because somebody who makes a DIY calcium reactor is just one more person who didn't buy the $200 unit of their shelf(grin).

I'd say go for it! There's a lot of DIY'ers out there.

I just thought of another potential problem though - liability. On forums, people can discuss DIY projects without much regard to application. That is, I could tell somebody how to build an aquarium stand out of plywood, and if they did and it came crashing down, oh well! In a book form, even with all sorts of disclaimers, there is still a level of responsibility, one that a publisher might not want to bother with.....

Check with a lawyer. In a lot of cases, a vanilla disclaimer is sufficient. As long as you don't purposely mislead people to do dangerous thing, I don't see that as a problem.

All the software I wrote has a disclaimer. Same as this advice. use it at your own risk. :lol:
