i have a 75 gallon tank in my bedroom. My dad dosnt want me to use a hob overflow because they can fail so i came up with this idea have a tall cabenet next to the tank where i would put a sump into at a higher elevation than the tank and then i would have a pump at the top of the tak which would send the water from the tank into the sump and then drain back into the tank. this way there is no way it can fail. if the power goes out the drian in the sump will be at the top end of it so it will only drain a little bit of water back into the tank and if the drain in the sump where to w.e reason stop working the pump would only pump the first couple of inches of water from the tank into the sump. What do you think will it work?

if the drain on the sump gets clogged you will pump your a lot of water out onto the floor if the sump isnt large enough to accommodate it...you could just run without a sump if you wanted to. check out the tunze reefpak 500. it has a skimmer, ato, and powerfilter/reactor thingy all built into one unit.
