Should I Remove the Internal Overflows

So, as if have nothing better to do on my week off, I am planning a total tank make-over for Thanksgivings week... we're not doing anything at home since we got invited to my buddy's and he is a really good cook so I am looking forward to that...

anyway I am planing to take down my home 215g and completely re do everything, starting with the overflows, I really don't like these black boxes inside my tank...

Has anyone try this before, anything comes to mind? potential issues arising from removing the factory overflow boxes????

if you remove them how do you plan to do the overflow ?

the overall plan is to install a coast to coast overflow in its place, drill the back of the tank, 3 x 1" the current pump is only about 900 gph

the four holes will be plugged using bulkheads and pvc plugs

my concern is with the silicone at the bottom of the tank where the overflow meets with the corner of the tank
