I'm just finishing a 40B for my office, same size just 2 inches shorter with 36 LEDs; no water yet but seems plenty bright for whatever I decide to put it.

Ah awesome. Where did you get your 36 LED set up? Did you buy individual pieces or did you buy a kit from like rapidleds or reefledlights?

1:1 blue to white ratio of LEDs?

Also, what size heatsink are you using? Because the 40 breeder has a center brace too I think that would block off light from the middle if you put all 36 LEDs on one heatsink.

has anyone ever tried pointing the LEDs at different directions? I mean each individual LED would point at a different location covering the entire tank with light. Would this eliminate the spotlight effect and perhaps look kinda cool?

How would you like to achieve that? You would have to lift the star I guess. I think if you are not using lenses narrower than 80degrees there's no spotlight effect whatsoever.

Yep, and I'd go as far as saying 60* at a good height off the water would eliminate spotlighting as well.

I got everything from Rapid, LEDs/drivers/fans/heat sink.
Yes 1:1 ratio, with the dim able driver I can dial in the color.
I got 3 5x9 heat sinks, the 40B doesn't have a center brace. Not the prettiest thing to look at but....

How does it look w/o Lenses? I am curious since RapidLEd states no need for lenses and I am curious the differences they make. Thanks 120g FOWLR.
