thanks for the info.

I wanted to use pvc and acrylic for a protien skimmer.

the pvc would be a coupler which would be "glued" to the top of the skimmer body to form the neck and hold the collection cup.

I'm not sure this is the best application to try out the joint.

I was thinking of doing the same thing. Check out the "US Plastics" website. They should have clear pvc pipe. --->pvc to pvc. I have not read if there is a specific glue for clear pvc like there is for flexible pvc.

savko.com also has the clear pvc, and aquatico, but I'm using arylic for the skimmer body, and the flanges that will be on the top of the body.

I was going to use 3" clear pvc for the neck and was going to use a coupler to transition the two. now that i think of it the collection cup is acrylic, so that's another joint to worry about.

Dont tell me your actually going to make a skimmer????
I have used weldon (cant remember which number) to glue PVC to acrylic with fairly good success though its not in a high stress join like the coupler for a skimmer.

I have the tubes for the body and collection cups, cut and ready.

I need to work on the flanges, the material I have is too thick.

So for a skimmer neck you would suggest the pcv/acrylic combo.

too bad it would have made life so easy.

back to the flanges.

Jon,
tomorrow I'll drop by my acrylic supplier I think weldon makes a PVC to acrylic glue. weldon 40 is great stuff but has a short shelf life, expensive and if it's not mixed exact it will craze

thanks Frank, that would be great to get!

let me know. I'm going to post a skimmer plan in the mean time,

Frank,

can you ask your supplier what he thinks of the 1802.

on weld-ons chart they do not recommend it for pvc to acrylic, they have
#40 recommended for all the different acrylics to pvc.

thanks

I just cut two flanges, they are kind of thick, I only had 3/8 in the shop.

the flanges are 9.75 and the tube is 7.5 do you have an O ring that would work for that?

I made a jig for my laminate trimmer, that's what I'm using to cut the acrylic, it's so small it's easy to control compared to my other large routers. I'm deciding if I'm going to rout the key holes or just use the thumb screws.
