Not sure many places sell the bit but I know Aqua Hut and Pets will drill the tank for you.

Just curious why a closed loop and not a Tunze, Vortech or max-jet mod, closed loops consume A LOT more power.

Joe,

Mainly for a clean look. I can't figure out why the Vortech's can do what they do but you need to have this slug sticking to the side of the tank with cords running from it. I'd love to have 2 of them but they ruin the look unless it's an in wall tank. JMO.

Everybody who I have talked to loves their CL system. As far as power goes I'm thinking 2-4 powerheads is almost as much as 1 external pump.

I don't think the power use comes close.... just a few random pumps

Tunze 6045 1,189GPH and draws 7 watts, a 6065 1,717GPH @ 17 watts, MP10 1575 @ 18 watts

Eheim 1261 910GPH @ 80 watts, Water blaster 1,300GPH @ 60 watts, Mag 12 1,200GPH @ 110 watts.

Granted a closed loop may look a little cleaner but you're still going to have the screens in the tank along with return nozzles. Closed loop will also push your tank off the wall more to clear the plumbing.

Something to think about before drilling the holes.
