Ok so got tiered of the auapod evan tho i just finished my led build for it. I decided to purchase a jbj cube 28 gal from nano tuners, they have the tank only setup on clearance sale in case anyone interested. So while im waiting for it to get here i been toying with idea of building a sump. I been trying to figure out away to get the water to the sump with out drilling the tank. Also been trying to figure out the how to to return the water to the tank. Should i return the water to the out out nozzles directly or should i return the water to the intank "sump" and let the two pumps pump the water back into the tank.
ANy idea has anyone done this before with a jbj 28?
Thanks

well to start i would take out the media case and get a small enough pump in there to the sump.theres aple amount of room for you to do so and for a cleaner look i would have the return go to the same place maybe make a divider to seperate them maybe a piece of acrylic and silicone it in there so your not having the same water cycling over and over.i just think it would be a cleaner way to go rather than adding another return line into the main tank when you can have the pumps that come with it return the water.the stock pumps the tank comes with a good enough.believe me i was think of doing the same thing and thats what i came up with

Yea I'm going to try to do it under the stand but it's not much space to work with. I wanna make the sump big enough to put in a nice sized skimmer and run a small refuge.

I didn't go with a chiller felt it wasn't worth the money for me so instead of doing a chiller I went with a diy led fixture. It cost a lil less then a chiller and really don't need it since the LEDs don't put out as much heat just the way I feel about that. What sort of lights you running ? If you can just go with LEDs instead of buying the chiller unless u absolutely need it.

Yea I was thinking of doing that but putting the over flow inside where the media rack is. Was also thinking of having one pump return water where the skimmer would go in the jbj so their is no stagnate water and have the 2 return pumps pump back to the front of the tank. Going to hardware store see if I could build the over flow box for the jbj and the sump.

Awhile ago I had the idea of doing this, but I see the hang on overflow box being a problem, mainly keeping the water flow in the filter being constantly that high. The filter that come on any nano tank like the JBJ or bio cube, is not designed to hold high amount of water behind the tank like that. I think drilling the back would be ALOT easier.

Check out my thread awhile back and watch the video...

well the only reason for the chiller is cause i had problems in the past with the water temp. rising i had to have my A/C on a timer for about 8 hours a day just to maintain a normal temp.my problem is now im moving sunday to a bigger apartment that has an open layout where the place im in now i could just close the door with the A/C on.i just think its a waste of electricity and nice cold air when i'm not even home to enjoy it.my electric bill at the end of the month was tru the roof.i currently have a 90 gallon that i have to break down and to transfer everything over to the new place is just too much of a hassle,so....i been shopping around for a decent size nano to make things easier. all i need to do is transfer water, rock, sand and coral from the 90 to the 28 without having to cycle.as far as the chiller the guy im getting the nano from is selling a chiller also and im getting an awesome deal for everything.oohh jonathan the light fixture is a nanotuner hqi with actinic blues.sorry for the long story guys.i been pulling my hair out all week trying to find a buyer for my custom tank packing like crazy, finding someone to take my fish and coral dealing with my deaf landlord (being upset with me leaving)its been a nightmare week!!!atleast if i get the nano(which ill probably keep and sell the 90 gallon also)it makes my move alittle easier.

To be honest I'm just really scared to drill my tank. I would hate to finally get the tank start drilling and get a crack or mess it up somehow it would just suck
