I was speaking to someone who does tank maintenance and builds. He was saying that every tank should have a grounding plug to get rid of any stray voltage that may be in the tank.

The stray voltage may stress the animals.

I just picked up the Deep Blue grounding plug, and going to give it a go. They are cheap and has a titanium probe that goes in sump and then plug it in to grounded outlet.

I've read and heard that they can do more harm than good. I read it here. http://angel-strike.com/aquarium/GroundingProbes.html

Most of the information in that link is incorrect.....his explanation of voltage and current is close but not correct. Same goes for his theory on electrolysis.

So leave the probe out and take the chance of you or another person putting their hand in a hot tank....better yet, let that heater leak down till it explodes and takes that tank out with it....
