the tank has a lot of coral and decent amount of fish parameters are good but id like the nitrates lower

How much space in the skimmer chamber do you have available? LxW and even height restriction would be needed to make recommendations.

i have a 6 inch width and 10 inch length in the chamber and 24 inch height clearance inside the stand

wow, that's a tiny space. Even this small Reef Octopus is .75" too big:

You don't have much room for a skimmer. You're going to be extremely limited on your choices. Are you sure those measurements are precise?

that is what i thought but i don't have an ato system so the water level would always change in the sump

The easy fix to this problem is......drum roll please......get an ATO. They really aren't that expensive (especially when compared to the total expense of this hobby).
