The battery you want to get a deep marine cycle battery or better yet get 2 golf cart batteries, as that will give you a lot of amps, which you need to turn over some of the bigger pumps that you may have. I found a couple of places in Brooklyn that actually delivered the battery to my place for free. I brought my inverter a long time ago, got it from some online place, and don't really remember the spec or what I looked at but just brought one that could handle a lot, I sure someone else could give you better spec on what to get when looking at an inverter.

I was told that the more amps on the inverter the faster the battery gos can this be true

An 80 amp hour 12 volt battery will deliver 1 amp of current for 80 hours. When you use an inverter to step up the voltage to 120 volts, it will deliver 1 amp for 8 hours. If you connect two batteries in parallel, the system will deliver 1 amp for 16 hours or 2 amps for 8 hours. In terms of watts, for one battery 120 watts for 8 hours, for two batteries 120 watts for 16 hours or 240 watts for 8 hours. The maximum number of watts is determined by the inverter.

I use a Power Bright inverter. Consumer Reports has good things to say about it.

I suppose as a backup power source, it is better than nothing.
