skimmer driving me nuts

Hey manhattan reefs how's everyone. I am having some difficulty with a skimmer getting it dialed in. I've tried everything in the books and by the t to get this son of a ... to work and no success. Skimmer only will skim wet and overflow and when I try to skim dry it does not pull much.

Is it sitting in the correct dept of water?

yeah water level looks kind of low

I've done everything. I've placed in the correct level of water and I've tried slightly above the recommended level of water. It won't break on and only skims wet.

I'm looking into aquamax / skimmz - can someone shoot some recommendations on each one of these brands. Skimmz has the D.C. controller how ever aquamax seems to support larger tank volumes for skimming but no D.C. controller.

How old is skimmer?

as water evaporates the level in the skimmer will go down, it does look like your water level is low. also your pump may be dirty
