Just wondering if anyone have one of this install on their system and how they like it? How you plumb this into your system, heard they dont come with a union on the inlet so i guess you need to use a tube and a clamp to tighten it.

I want to replace my return pumps with Red Dragons but my wallet just rolled over and laughed at me.
I was thinking of the Tunze Recirulation pump and I know early on there were some problems with them being loud.
Tom, go research them for me

I was looking at the 1073 to replace the 2 bluelines that I have running to the 180g & 102g. Haven't bought it yet cause I remember a while back when they came out there were issues with noise, impellar blah, blah....blah.
Roger probably corrected all the issues by now but I wanted Tom to research for me :lol2:
At least your snapper sounds a little noisy but them Bluelines under pressure sounds like a small prop plane taking off!

Ricky, I wish they called me "money bags" like they call you

You're not? I thought with all the LED lightings you have, you could start a mini store, heheh:biggrinpa

With a Tunze, you must get the 1073, which pushes 2000gph.. or the next lower one is around 800+ which is too little.. The 1073 is around $380...

flowstar is a nice pump....I haven't read through the thread on rc but I think ATB is no longer a sponsor on RC. Instead I think they are a sponsor on Reef2reef and you can probably get more info there.

I think 3/4" fittings should work well and I heard they do come with a union.

Tom,
Did you ever pickup the Flowstar pump? Did it come with a union? I read that the unions were machined on for an additional cost.

I spoke to Roger about the Tunze Recirculation 1073.90 pump and the only drawback is required maintenance of the impellar ever few months due to prone calcium binding with the shaft. I would hate to take apart an external inline pump for maintenance that often, I don't touch the magnetic type pumps that I use now and can see in a crystal ball of impellars shafts snapping constantly from my neglect of maintenance.

The Flowstar still looks promising for my other setup that does not require the head pressure. I see tax return cash evaporating in the near future.

yeah, i got the atb 1500 flowstar, hehe.. Its not that big, small little pump.. But i haven't taken apart the sump and install it yet.. I just soak it in vinger and left it in the water for now.

It is true that it does not come with a union on the intake, but the outlet does have a 3/4 inlet..

I search for a long time and found some time of plumbing clamp that should be albe to connect a 1 1/4 pvc and then to the 1" inlet.. In home depot for an hr trying to find what piece i could get to see if it work.. I'll take a pics later for you.. Going away for 2 weeks, lol.. Now i need to wait till i come back to set it up.. duhh..

The impeller looks like designed for smooth flow and prevent counter-rotation, the review sound interesting. Who retail these? I have to shutdown the snapper from 9m-7am daily, wife says she will pour bleach\vodka in the cube if I don't do something about the jet engine noise.
