The entire wet side, nozzle and all, to one of my MP40's began spinning last night. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I assumed that calcification caused the drive shaft and/or internal magnet to fuse with the wet frame, but that was not the case. Actually there was no calcification on the unit at all, and only minimum amounts of debris.

In any event, I am wondering if I should just replace the entire wet side, or just the drive shaft assembly. Any thoughts?

I think it is due to a loss of porousness on the sponge on the wet end and misalignment with the motor. Try taking it out and cleaning it off really well with a toothbrush. You may also want to soak it in vinegar overnight to get it really clean. Then realign and see what happens.

I have had this issue with my MP-40. My unit was under a year old, and still under warranty. If you look where the shaft goes through the base of the wet side, there is a little white ceramic like washer that broke. They replaced whole wet side, with a upgraded design. I would give them a call, and try to get it replaced, but worst case you'll have to buy a new wet side. There is no fix for it.

Josh- I took the whole wet side apart and scrubbed it clean. No more debris on it. I guess I will throw it in some vinegar to see if it helps, but there is no visible calcification on it so I don't think it will help. Worth a shot though.

ereefer- The vortech does have the ceramic washer. I will check to see if that is the failure piont again tonight.

Thank you guys.

Also, check the inside of the cover (the one with the sponge on it) - sometimes the depth isn't correctly set and it rubs against that - it will leave circular markings on it.

Good luck and definatley work with ecotech and contact the vendor you bought it from so they are aware - we follow up on behalf of all our customers.

Update: I contacted Ecotech and explained the issue I was having. The customer rep said that the wet side I have on my pumps had a known design flaw. They are sending me a replacement wet side for both of my pumps, not just the one that is already malfunctioning. The rep also offered to send me replacement cables for my battery back up unit since the original cables are being recalled. Now that is some great customer service.
