so i have a nano tank and the nitrates and phosphates a little high. I feed my tank rods food once a day and they seem to eat most of it leaving little left over for the crabs. My question is how often do i need to feed my fish. can i go every other day to help to try and lower the tank with out the need of more additives? I'm trying to keep the costs down and the maintenance minimal. I was wondering if I can feed them every other day or maybe stretch it out to every third day. any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

What kind of fish? Frozen food is terrible for water quality. Rods has lots of small food for coral which doesn't get eaten and foulsnthe water. Feed rods twice a week and pellets the rest of the week. Cut down on the amount of rods you feed. The type of fish you have will determime how often you have to feed. I feed monday, wensday and friday. I have mostly a preditor tank. If you have an established tank fish will find other foods to eat wither algae, zooplankton or phytoplankton.

I have a clown pair and a watchman goby. i feed the whole tank about a pinky nail size daily and twice a week ill spot feed the corals with the rods. my tanks been set up for almost a year now.

so you saying if i essentially "starve" the clowns and watchman by cutting back on the food they will start eating some of the algae that is growing in the tank?

I am saying you can switch to pellets and feed those 3 fish every other day. If you feed them every other day they won't starve. They will eat more then just algae. They will eat pods, small brittle stars, worms and other organisms.

Feed pellets or flakes dailh and let the fish eat the rods food that gets away from the coral when you spot feed twice a week.
