I have a 55gal Reef http://www.flickr.com/photos/59422509@N00/ and have 4 aquacultured BLK/WHT false percula clowns, purple dottyback. I am looking to add either a flame angel or a coral beauty. I have read that you must take caution in a reef as they are prone to nipping at the corals, clams. What are your experiences with these fish? I hope they won't chase my Blk/WHt clowns they are a little small. Thanks

All pgymy angel are a risk to nip at corals and clams, so it's always a risk. The Flame would be the more aggressive of the two but either angel shouldn't be a problem with the Clowns. The Purple Dottyback could be a problem in the beginning as they can be some what aggressive but really shouldn't be a problem. I would worry more about the angel picking on the corals or clams. If you can live with one of the angel possible picking at some of your corals that either should be fine.

i've had a coral beauty and never had a problem w/ him picking on anything. just keep them well fed.

as for flame angels, i've heard many stories about them picking on stuff. nothing is a 100%.

they should be fine w/ the tank inhabitants you have now since they are the last ones being added. it's when you add them first that you have to worry.

It all depends on the type of coral. Some can take it while others may not do that well from being nipped on and could even die from the consistant nipping.

What does usually happen is that the fish picks on one type of coral and keeps nipping at it. They may eventually even eat it all, zoa's are a coral that this happens to quite a bit.
