NEW SHARK FOUND?

I may have....I hope I just caught a new epaulette shark species from the Coral Sea.
Look how big its spots are compared to known species.

Hi Steve,

How does this fish differ from Hemiscyllium hallstromi from New Guinea? It was discovered by Whitely (of boxfish fame) in 1967. FishBase doesn't give a photo, but this web site (in French) does:

Sharks are not my forte, I bet Scott Michael would know if this is a valid species, a regional variety or what.

Thanks to Jays ID.....I found lotsa recent refences to the incredible new walking shark re-discovered in 2006!
I guess Whitely's 1966 discovery needed an update...or more likely, Conservation International needed to justify its expedition costs with something new and dramatic!

A new shark attack was recorded in Papua New Guinea this week when a newly discovered species latched onto the nose of reef a survey consultant ....shown here.
The bite put a hole thru the silicon nosepiece of the facemask and flooded it.
Aside from the embarrassment, I'm fine.
