Len--How'd it go?

Are you weighing out the prazi in powder form? We usually use a mL or two of 95% ethanol to make a slurry and then dissolve it in DI water. Otherwise it tends to clump up and takes a while to break apart.

Never thought of this--will have to try it, the clumps are a pain...

Hey Eric,

most of my fish died during the move due to a bunch of problems. But the sole surviving black tang is doing better than ever having gone through the medication. When I dosed Prazi, it immediately "pumped a grump" :P Its feces has looked different ever since, so I'm pretty sure I fully dewormed it with Prazi. It also made flukes pop off its eyes which I never knew were there. I could see the flukes peeling away from the eyeballs (which irritated the tang like crazy for a few days).

All in all, I'm a big fan of Prazi. It is gentle on fish and most decorative inverts, though gastropods and worms hate it.

Matt,

We used a variable amount of ethanol, from 1 to 5ml to dissolve the prazi for a treatment in a 50 gallon tank. At first we thought it was toxicity from the praziquantel itself, that flashlight fish had some special sensitivity to it, because another aquarium had reported that - but subsequent DO readings taken proved that was the problem *and* that flashlight fish are really sensitive to low DO (it only dropped to 5.5mg/l during the treatment). I later learned that the other aquarium with the problem had also used ethanol as a solvent. I've never lost any other fish when I used to use ethanol, but I did end up with the bacterial blooms that clouded the water for a few days.

So - no more ethanol for me (at least not in my tanks, I still self-medicate!), I just have this reoccurring need for women's stockings (grin). A pair of blue tights worked best - the prazi is extruded through the fabric with no clumps at all. Sometimes with the sheer nylons, I still get clumps.

Women's stockings and alcohol? Now we're talking!

Actually, I mean, I need to excuse myself from this thread now...
