I brought a pair of maroon clown gs with 2 yellow tail damsel and is in hypo now in a 30 gallon tank (1 week) with some PVC.

The question I have is when they sleep at night both of them would kind of lay flat behind the filter not all the way on the surface but very close . Not really sure if they have any kind of breathing problem or some clown disease.

But they are eating excellent, a little fin rot but seem to be growing back since I got them.

Thank you

They are in hypo now? Right away? Or are they in a hospital tank at the same PH and SG as the lfs tank?

Chiefmcfuz, I had them drip for 3 hours and left them in the dark for 1 day before I went to Hypo. I didnot check the the LFS PH and SG. I had them starting at 1.26 and Ph at 8.2 but I made sure they eat before I slowly start to hypo them in the hospital tank. The hospital tank now is PH 8.0 with buffering and in .09. Nitrate seem very good at the 10 range

I'm also feeding them with vitachem and adding a little Vitamin C in the water seem to boost the PH up a little.

It seems kind of strange to be sleeping like that (both of them).

thanks

Ron..as simply as I can tell you...
Hypo..hyposalinity. Slowly lowering the salinity of a QT to 1.009 in order to rid fish of ich. They are kept in this low salinity for approx 6 weeks to assure the ich has completed all stages of it's life cycle. During this time the main display tank is also totally devoid of fish.
After the 6 week period, the salinity of the QT tank is slowly raised back to normal levels and the fish are then reacclimated to the display tank.

KathyC I believe all fish that come from LFS have ICH. How can they not have, they share the same water.

I once had a emperor that fool me into thinking it didn't have ich (4 weeks in 30 gallon tank no signs of Ich) But once it got into display kaboom all the ICH came out.

Anyway I guess no one knows the reason why it is sleeping like this.

Not all fish get Ich Bud, some are more prone than others (no pun intended).
Keeping a fish in Hypo creates stress of it's own making and IMO I would not hypo (or medicallytreat) a fish for any disease unless I was sure it had that disease. The reasoning for a QT tank is to observe the fish for about 4 weeks to see if it exhibits any symptoms of disease and to be sure it is eating. If all seems well after that period of time it is usually safe to acclimate the fish into your DT.
That is not to say the fish (perhaps like your Emperor) will not be subject to stessors once it is the dispaly tank that could be caused by the other fish being aggressive towards it, disease that may be in the DT that the other fish are immune to or even the quality of the water.
We're still better off keeping fish in a QT before introducing them to the DT but unfortunately even that is not a 100% guarantee.

I only recently got my clown pair and don't know what their sleeping habits are like...my 2 haven't stopped moving for a second since they got here. I'm tired just from watching them :spin:

kathy C, I'm sure lots of people will agree with you, But in my mind if the fish doesn't pass the QT, hypo or copper (done correctly) is going to die eventually in my tank. I am now leaving hypo and instead going with copper now to kill other disease it has after reading about brook.

Glad you also have a maroon pair, who are they going to live with?

I am planning to add a flame angel with the maroon pair and a bulb anemone. You think a flame angel will do good with them (housing in a 45 gallon tank).

thanks for the comment
