Add a firefish

I have a 24 gallon Aquapod. One of my fish is a firefish. Can I add a second one or will they fight. I know it would have been better to put them in at the same time but that is past.

My kids have a 12gal eclipse with a purple firefish and the regular firefish for a year with no problems but both were added at the same time . I don't know if that matters

Well watch your fish load, you already have 4, one being an anthias which has a big load.

It would have been better to add them together but if you can't find yours a temp home to house for a while and then reintroduce with a new one then get some kind of container to house yours in the tank(a lot of people do that here, not sure what they use though) while the new one gets accustomed to your tank.

Good idea but my chances of catching him are slim.

I catch my fish letting them starve for a few days then I introduce a bucket with food at the botton (tasty food like brine shrimps) halfway to thru the water surface. Eventualy the fish come for the food and then just lift the bucket.

I wouldn't recommend it.. I tried that once and the second fire fish i put in almost got beat to death, 3 times.. lol.. It sucked having to catch him to take him out of the tank (because I had to take almost everything out of the tank), but I just couldn't leave him in there to get slaughtered.. I tried seperating the 1st one by putting him in a smaller breeder box within the tank and letting the second one get used to the environment.. I kept the first firefish in the breeder box for about a week and a half. I also rearranged everything in the tank. When I let the first firefish go it took him about 30 minutes to start chasing and trying to beat the second firefish up. I tried the same process again, this time for two weeks with the same result. I ended up having to give away the second firefish.. Sucked.

What I would recommend is donating the one you have and getting two that you see are getting along relatively well in the pet store.. This way they start fresh.. I;ve seen that work pretty well..

That being said I'd defintely be willing to rehome your firefish.. lol

Don't add the same type of firefish. Almost gauranteed one will kill the other.

Thanks to cthoughts1 and azn1217. I sort of felt that but just wanted to see how others faired. I will probably go with a watchman goby.

Basiab, great idea.. I would definitely rec. a goby.. Preferably a white sleeper goby.. They're awesome! Best of luck.. any pictures?
