New York City Reefers,

I have found it increasingly time consuming to go to multiple sites to post ads for coral trades and equipment sales. Since I live in NYC, I routinely go through the listings looking for other users in the New York area who have items to trade or sell. For this reason, I thought that a central website for New York City's reefs would be advantageous to all.

The purpose of this website is to help NYC reefers meet and contact each other. I am in no way trying to duplicate the amazing efforts of the webmaster on this site. The forums on this site are a treasure trove of material. Manhattan Reefs is merely to help people from a certain locale find what they are looking for within their own area.

:idea: splendid idea, josh! my phone bill is out of control from all this research online, dealing with popups, windows within windows... etcetera....

One thing I forgot to mention is the New York Reef Store database. I am trying to maintain a complete list of all stores in the NYC area. Let me know if any are missing from the list!

i checked it out as i am certain that it is inclusive of all the NYC pet shops that currently have considerable marine/reef livestock and equipment, except that i am only familiar with queens, manhattan, and brooklyn shops. not bad, 3 out of five boros, i almost never pass thru the other two so just wouldnt know, but would be surprised if any.

as for the other pet shops out there, time will tell if they ever venture into this most complex area of aquaria, and someone in our online community will go where?? to post it???... ***manhattanreefs.com*** :wink: thanks to you!

it would be so convenient if my closest LFS, located just blocks away, would get into marine and reef. the manager got excited after seeing my tank and started lots of research on setting up, but they are on the low end so to speak. plus they mentioned the vast majority of this inner city neigborhood's clientelle are into critter of the warm-n-fuzzy-ez-to-keep variety. but they do currently have a very healthy yellow tang in a single SW tank, that i occasionally drop by to check up on.

here in Queens, i appreciate Fish Town USA, Aquatic Treasures, Coral Aquarium, and Northern Aquarium immensely!
