Help asap plz

i have had 4 of my cichlids die in the last 24 hours they all happen to have a hole on the side by their gills has this happened to anyone and if so how do i cure it my nitrates where high and i did a water change its weird anyone with knowledge to this problem please help me out im freaking out my fish are like my kids and i hate to see them going tru this......

how much of a water change was it? first step in treating any fresh water disease, 50% WC, add salt, raise temp. add salt at 1-2 tablespoonful per gallon, raise temp to 86F.

wait and see, if problem persist, get minocycline from LFS.

how long do i run the temp high for and would table salt do it i did a water change just now also ive notice that other fish have like black smudge on their fin and body

It will be hard for anyone to give diagnosis without pictures. It sounds like a parasite was introduced at some point with a combination of neglect. I've had newly introduced saltwater fish get sick and die in a matter of days and a small hole was found each time. But those were new fish the other fish weren't affected ...

but this is fresh water and my levels have always been neutral i dont post pics becauuse i dont know how to do it from my phone

you run temp high for a few days or until you think the fishes are doing well. try not to use table salt. if you don't have salt for aquariums then you can use epson salt

I know i'm just trying to help besides i've kept freshwater from i was a kid. Did you add new fish?
