Bought a can of rustoleum textured sand paint. And sprayed multiple coats under the bottom glass to simulate and mud bottom. Tank will be barebottom to keep as clean as possible for Discus.

The bulkheads included in Deep Blue plumbing kit are horrendous! These are new bulkheads i ordered from amazon made by Lifeguard.

I initially bought a 1260 by eheim. It was to strong for discus. Instead of putting a valve on it i opted to buy the smaller, cheaper eheim compact 2000. Smaller, quieter, less energy usage. Love those rubber feet.

Had to use 2 plants to cover the over flow.

After messing with the Deep Blue overflow for over a week, i could never get it silent let alone quiet. Since i was using low flow compared to reefs, i cut the return pipe, and inverted the elbow on the durso drain so it points up. Added a separate return on the side of the tank and wala! Herbie method. Absolutely silent and also allows for 2 drains, a main and a backup. Had to add a valve to the main drain and tinker with that till perfect. But once its done its all worth it!
