Sad Loss

Dear Forum,


A nephew of mine (only 14)recently visited a LFS and asked how he could clean his freshwater tanks. They recommended using laundry detergent!!!!! Needless to say he destroyed his systems. I was wondering if anyone knew if any of these tanks, filters, heaters, thermometers, ect were salvageable? I know they would have to be rinsed many many times over a long period of time, but wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations or insight.

wow... I would bleach everything then air dry a week
not sure what role detergent plays on stcking to studd since really just soap

WTF why would they say that to him. But I am sure some stuff can be rinsed in RODI water and reused.

I plan on writing a letter to the corporate office of said LFS. I do not want to reveal any of the info at this time as this may negatively impact retribution I am seeking in lieu of the terrible advice given.

Corporate office? So it has to be one of the major chain pet place. Dont know of a pet store that has a coporate office

What size tank did your nephew have?
I have a standard 29g tank he could have, no stand though. If interested lmk

is it possible that they thought your nephew meant the tank is emptied and then he want to know how to clean it? It is highly unlikely that they would tell him to clean it with detergent while the tank is up and running with life inside.
