Hi there,
So, I now have a pond under my care (and a greenhouse but that'll get a post later on) as a revitalization project at the school I work in.

These are a few pictures of the recent transformation (next post).
So, now that the space looks 10x better (it hadn't been used in over a year, and most people didn't know this garden space existed or rather that it had a pond!!)

I want to make this awesome:
host koi, some vegetation, be generally self-sustainable

At an extremely low cost. I'm not sure if you are aware but the budget is getting smaller and smaller for schools but our job/responsibilities gets larger and larger.

As I research pond maintenance and sites relating to it's needs, I see lots of technology I doubt I need for a basic, pretty, and functional pond. So, I am hoping folks here can give me the behind the scenes scope on what is REALLY important, help me know what I should be looking for/thinking about. Essentially, help me set up a mental frame work to construct into reality.

Pictures of your pond, rational for your build, suggested plants/animals, concerns, etc.

Btw, this garden is locked in only by an 8ft gate and borders 3 homes. Most people do not know it is there. Soon it will be used as an incentive for students earning a spot on the Super honor roll (they get to have supervised lunch in the garden).
