Just finished my 30 gallon fuge adding it to my 90 gal lps dominant tank. My question is do I add miracle mud, sand or nothing to the bottom? How deep should sand bed be? Nitrates are my main reason for adding fuge

IMO i would add 2-3 inches to the refugium. Sorry bad pic but if you see the left side of the pic theres sand in my refugium. I added pink samoa sand aka dead sand.

miracle mud can get expensive, imo i would just get dead sand, which will become full of life and add some cheato, that will get rid of your nitrates. as the cheato grows it sucks a lot of the nitrates from the water, and don't forget some lighting. cheap home depot lighting will be sufficient for the fuge.

No sand. It will be easier to get good flow which u want and it's a haven for detrius. No reason for a sand bed in the fuge unless it's going to be a deep sand bed and in that case I would go cryptic without any light. I would throw small flow from the sump and add a koralia for flow in the tank. Good flow will help with any bacteria that would want to settle in like cyano.
