My new 125 gal.has been set up for about 4 mos. and has completed it's cycle some time ago but now there is 4/5 clumps of algae growing on the live rock that never grew in my other 125 gal. (I don't own a camera) It grows in a clump with separate fronds growing up from the base, they are light brown/tan in color and look like a very small fox tail(non branching). I don't know how long the fronds will get,but right now they are about 1"to 1 1/2" in length.I've had reef aquariums since 1994 with all kinds of different types of alga but never this kind. I know it's hard to identify something without a picture, maybe someone will venture a guess?

Thanks for any help,
Frank A.

Thanks Treef. I went down that road right after the cycle and thought I was thru with algae because the only thing I have in the tank is snails and a couple of Matrix crabs so I don't feed the tank except for phytoplankton to feed my live sand and live rock.(grow my own) The sides of the tank is covered with copepods and my tests tell me my NO3 and PO4 is "O'". I'm going to see if my tooth brush will help.

Thanks again,
Frank
