Does anybody know if a computer battery backup will be powerful enough to run an mp40? Best buy sells a univeral battery backup unit for computers with the impending storm I was thinking if I kept my mp 40 running it might buy me several hours if my power goes out?
Any thoughts?
Thanks

i have my power heads hooked up to a computer back up, depending on what the battery is rated i would double that time and you probably will have power for that long. my backup has 4 plugs but im only using two to save energy. Also, an mp40 uses less power than a computer

i'm going to be building a DIY battery backup today. if you google it, you'll find a few DIY articles on various sites. seems pretty simple.

12v 18ah battery
12v float charger
1.3mm DC connector size H
inline fuse w/ 1a fuse

issue i came across is radio shack only has a 12v 7ah battery so i may just pick this up and get a bit less than half of the power rating from 18ah which is 72hr's for a mp10 so if i get almost 2 days i think i should be good.

I just opened my brand new mp40 battery backup and plugged it in. Irene gave me a good reason to finally order it on Tuesday. I always thought buying corals was a better option. The thought of my tank crashing is a nightmare, especially due to something I could prevent or mitigate. Hopefully, we don't lose power, but this seems like a pretty good insurance policy.

Just build a back up half the price last longer...

I did earlier. Piece of cake and I'm not very DIY either. Largest battery I could find locally was 7ah. I may pick up another tomorrow and wire it up in parallel. Then return the two and replace with a proper 18ah. Just need something to get me through Irene!

Even with the two batteries and other parts, it will cost under $100. When I get a proper 18ah battery, will cost about $70. May not be as pretty but it does the same thing and keeps a Benjamin in my pocket for something else. Also a quick fix instead of scrambling to fine the vortech and pay LFS premiums.
