I must say it's obvious and almost applies to any animal. Shove 5 people in a 20x20 room for their entire lives and it'll get hostile. The thing with fish is that most people do not place them in a higher standard, unlike a puppy or a kitty, and it is perhaps because they don't blink and one can't be affectionate with them. A statement that some aquarists know to be false.

I remember on myspace 6 years ago when I was attacked by some Biatch, lets call her kim, for keeping a powder blue in a 29gallon for qt. No matter how many times I mentioned that this was just qt before i set it loose and risk infecting my 220, she would not shut up for her life.

You would think it would be obvious, but some people ignore the obvious for the reasons you stated. I don't think most people are being malicious when they stock smaller tanks with larger fish but I think it's more like selective ignorance.

I did have a few cortez stingrays at one point that would take turns resting on my palm when I stuck my hand in the tank, even when there was no food. I'm pretty sure they loved me but I had no way to prove it lol.
