So I got a dogface puffer a few days ago and somehow the puffer ended up dying today. I was about to just lose it and completely oust myself from the hobby. The water parameters are in check. The puffers body was a little darker than it's usual gray color and both of it's eyes were cloudy and it was at the bottom of the tank. Any help is much appreciated and would like to know what is going on. HELP !

What kind of puffer was it?

What EXACTLY are your water paremeters?

Puffers sometimes get a bacterial infection that manifests as visible areas of discoloration on the skin and sometimes those areas become inflamed and raised. It usually starts out as large patches on the skin and then spreads. There isn't much you can do at that point but try and treat it but it usually doesn't end well for the puffer.

it's a dogface puffer

I did a large water change a few weeks ago and revmoed y emperor 400 and then started doing 10g water changes from there on out and my nitrates were under 30 at all times

could it be possible that ammonia killed him ? doesn't ammonia kill fish within hours or the first day or 2 if there's any present ? i didn't see any in the test...

thanks

You didn't answer the above question. We need to know the answer to it in order to help you out with the future of your tank inhabitants.
How was the puffer acting in the store?
When did you first noticed any symptom, and what system did you notice first? What size tank?
What did you replace the HOB with?

Ammonia 0 / nitrites 0 / nitrates 10 / salinity 1.025 / temp. 77 / ph is unknown atm no test for it atm / the HOB emperor 400 was removed completely it was leading to nitrate buildup I just have a skimmer running on the FOWLR and it's a 55g and yes I know the puffer would outgrow the tank in a few months but I was planning on upgrading to 90g but now I'm holding off going into a different direction I've lost like $150+ in livestock learned my lesson well about this hobby

I noticed symptoms like the 3rd or 4th day and I got him from an online vendor of which I ordered before from. He seemed healthy until he went hiding and then it wasn't till the 6th day or so he ame out had both eyes cloudy and it seemed as if the top part of it's body was a lot darker than usual

What other livestock did you loose?
Perhaps something in your tank is being eaten. Puffers like to test bite things.

I lost my clownfish yesterday it was covered in white stuff just like the puffer. I cried a little had him for a long time. I lost 3 fish in total since the first of the 3 had some sort of fungus or bacterial infection.

Scarfers, I am very sorry you've lost so many!:( I feel your loss buddy. I went through similar situation with my fowl a couple of times for different reasons. Doesn't matter what the reason is, it still hurts when you loose fish. Especially those we've had a while.

With that said, don't let this set back discourage you to the point of leaving the hobby.

Do you have any other living animals in this tank now?

one thing i have learned is no matter where you get something from and no matter how great they look at the time is to set your self up a qt system. use that emporer on a 10 or 20 gallon tank rubbermaid or anything else that holds some water and watch the new addition for at least a month. then you can treat any symptoms that you see.

Sounds like something sick went into the tank. Possibly a fish with ick.
You say the first of the three had some fungus? And you put him in your main tank anyway? Was this fish new?
Should practice to quarantine new fish or a fish that seems sick.
Likely, that sick fish got your other fish sick and resulted in your loss. Wh which I am sorry to hear about.
