i know there was a thread about this in the past, but i cannot find it. i was looking but dont remember the title of it. anyway

everything in my tank looks fine. all coral is open like usual, and water is fine...but my GSP is not opening? i know many people said this happened to them before, and then they eventually just opened. did anyone ever figure out the cause of this? every now and then i see maybe 1 or 2 kind of opened, showing the green color, but other then that, they dont want to open. i noticed this a few days ago, but said ehh no big deal, i remember reading they do this every now and then. but now im on day 4 not open. so im getting concerned. i know its only GSP, but it was one of my favorites because it started with 5 heads, and is not like others that are just a grass colored green, mine is kinda ULTRA green colored.

so, what is the reason for this? its not my water pars or lighting or anything, i know GSP are known for this... but why?

Take a turkey baster and blast them to make sure there is no cyano or detritus covering them. After that I would just wait and give them some time.

i thought about that last night when i did my water change. so i took my syringe and blasted them, and also picked it up and shook it off a little. i did not see anything fall off tho

might b something with ur parameters. if thats a colt coral next to it seems like its not fully open. most softy corals tend to tell u wen they arent happy

nahh my water pars are spot on like always. and that picture is just from my camera phone with the brightness turned up too much so it just looks like a blur, and my lights turned on 3 minutes before i took that picture. its one of those ultra green Nephthya frags. i dont have a camera good enough to get the real color, but i turned my brightness down a little on the camera and now you can see him open kind of. the nephthya is open now pretty good sized. see, he looks good now...

My GSP took about 4 days to open. I moved my powerhead a little and squirt a turkey Baster on mine on night 3 after introducing the GSP frag and next day I had about 7 polyps out in full green.
That was 3 weeks ago. Now about a dozen bright green polyps out and growing. Also I now notice about 15 tiny white polyps poking out. Seems they are getting larger. But I hope they turn green like the rest!

Check your Mg, it should be 1350 ppm. For some reason mine wouln't open when it fell below 1300.
Also the Nepthea coral has a pretty powerful chemical defense. In my tank there was a very clear 2-3" area around the Nepthea and no coral would grow any closer to it. you may want to move the GSP away from the Nepthea and see if it opens.

Do you all mean when you introduced the gps to your tank? My gps has been in my tank for well over a year now, same as the leather. The gps has started out with 5 heads, and now over 500. This issue started about 4 days ago. And my magnesium is At 1550 all the time. The gps has been by a huge finger leather for almost a year, but I got rid of the leather because it way too big

Gps

My GPS started great.
After a few months it grew longer (like grass), but oddly not colonizing.

I moved it ALOT because I was trying to get the right landscaping effect and have dropped it many MANY times. Some accidentally. It now only comes out about only 20-30% of the heads.

I also had a whole colony of button polyps on the same rock as the GSP, but now they have slowly dissapeared to a dismal 20%

My paramaters are fine.
It sits nice and high in my tank with medium flow.

Does it mean they are stressed?
Or some underlying factor?
