I'm about to buy an RO/DI filter because I've heard so many people say "It was the best thing I've ever bought!"

I'm wondering other then an RO/DI, what was the best purchase you've made?

The booster pump for my RO/DI.

And as far as my tank is concerned......I consider it the worst damn purchase I've ever made  POS acrylic. Tenecor makes a nice tank, but ANY tank made of acrylic S.U.C.K.S. (Scratches Under Careful Kleening Supplies). BTW, did I mention that acrylic tanks rot? :irked:

I couldn't pick a single best item, but my DIY calcium reactor has made life a little easier. $20 worth of acrylic, $20 pump, 10 pound CO2 cylinder purchased used for $25 and solenoid (if I remember correctly, I spent $100 on it). For what I paid in materials, it's priceless. Other than that, I guess I'd say back up power.

My litermeter. Hands down. (other than the tank, salt lights, live stuff you need to have a tank.)

With a 20 gallon tank evaporating 5 gallons a week in the summer, It would be a royal PITA to top off.

It was even worse when I had a 7 bowfront.

Really!? Does it make that big a difference? I use a swing arm (I know, I know) I assume I'm off by +-3 but would I notice that much of a difference if it was 1.026 rather then 1.023 or 1.029?

Calk reactors and top offs seem to be big responses. I bet a lot of people have neither. I think I'll move those up on my list of "stuff to do".

1 gallon Poland Spring jug, some airline tubing, and a knot = my $3 Kalk reactor...it's awesome for what it is. Keeps my tank topped off and kalk is just awesome stuff. Thinking of doing a bigger one soon though just looking for the right container.
