How do I keep the rock from fracturing during the drilling process? Also, can I use a corded drill without getting electrocuted?
you should probably pre-drill with a smaller bit first then step up to a bigger one. use fairly new sharp bits and let them do the work. even pressure and don't stop the drill while the bit is inside. back it out if it seems to hit a hard spot... keep the drill going and pull out...don't stop and try to reverse the drill.
don't forget protective gears....goggles and thick gloves...rocks may have sharp edges and you will have to grip it well. may want to wear old clothes...chances are you will platter/splooge all over yourself.
don't drill inside your apartment if possible.....the smell is pretty bad....if you have a balcony, i would definitely work out there.
if you're using a corded drill, you can make a drip loop and make sure it's not dripping on the plug area.
do a water change and save old water to rinse the schmutz off the rock.
