I made it through irene with no issues at all and decided it was time to begin stocking my tank. As my luck would have it the basement is re-finished and ready for my kids to make a mess in....

here comes the snow storm and no power since Saturday early afternoon.

the temp in my house is a brisk 43 i removed almost all of the corals and placed them in another tank. they were without heart/circulation for at least 24 hours by the time i transplanted them. i was unable to catch my wrasse, i thought the cold water would slow him down a bit!

i am wondering what happens next, i wont have power/heat until wed at the earliest? Can anything survive? i would think the temp drop is worse than anything else at this point. is my once live rock, now just a wet rock in the tank? as always, tia

See if someone can hold your corals for you till you ready and back up... Make sure you trust them and of course they have good ratings. It would suck to lose them...

Thirty6 my tank is broken down. If there is anything I can do to help let me know.

I'd be happy to mix up some saltwater for you and pop a few heaters in it to make it real worm. Maybe mixing it in with the cold wate will warm it up a little.

Let me know.

Take a look in our 'Emergency Measures to use now' thread...get a deep cycle or car battery and hook a heater up to it and put in a battery operated air pump.

Nothing will stay alive in a tank in temps like you have there :(

thanks everyone, i really appreciate the offers: i did put about 15 pcs of misc coral in a solid tank, i am not sure if i missed a pc or two when i cleared everything out. the corals are opening now from what i have been told which i take as a good sign.

i couldnt catch the wrasse and after an hour or so of trying i had to leave for work last night.

i will try to get some sort of battery backup for heater air pump too

i am wondering if i am now faced with the situation of basically starting over again? the tank was fairly young (just over 4 to 5 months)

and the real kicker, the corals were added in the last two weeks or so

power came on last night around 830 pm, after checking the house to make sure no one decided to go shopping while the house was empty i made my way to the basement to check on the tank: fish didnt make it, and there were a few corals that i forgot to pull out in haste before work the other day.

i didnt really do anything with the tank as the system was running as normal and i left the lights on the normal timing cycle. i will take a longer closer look tonight after work.

Seeing as none of the livestock survived this, unless a snail or hermit made it through, is my once "live rock" basically just big we rocks now? was def. a mild odor of decay in basement. thanks for input, ill check back before i leave work for some thoughts.

im going to make the sales pitch tonight for a house generator with natural gas hookup....figure always best to strike while its a hot topic

The rock is certainly going to be live, very soon. It is going to cycle though. You won't want to add your coral or any fish until the cycle is complete.

Sorry to hear about your disaster. Be glad you weren't stocking the tank for months. Sounds like it was just in the beginning stages of stocking (trying to look at the bright side :) )

Best of luck
Russ

Thanks Russ, I am very glad tank was on newer side. I am thinking of changing things around now that opportunity presents itself..... Toying with idea of 6' tank: either way I am either buying vortech t bu or small generator just for tank

That sucks. I'm still without power in 07675 and they ate saying we might not get power back till around the 7th.

Sorry, I'd offer to hold stuff for ya, but not good idea for obvious reason. Good luck, I'm trying to get my princess to go for a small addition on our house and include natural gas generator!
