Tunze 6095

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on Tunze's new 6095 Nano Stream Pump.

Wide flow and Nano-pump size. :thrash:

Who has one? What are your thoughts?

go with the vortech mp10w. ive had the mp40w back in the day n they where awesome...

Im not a huge fan of the mp10 honestly. Ive had a few in the past. The 6095 will give out a much more broad flow.

There was a link in MR to a product test thread comparing different companies power heads that was posted here a few months ago.
Tunze power heads came a lot closer to their advertised rating than Vortech which were embarrassingly overstated.

I prefer my tunze 6095's over the vortechs (mp40's, mp20's, mp10's) that i've owned..

Down to 1 MP 40 from 4, all swapped back to Tunzes as well. The MP40 I liked when they worked but something always seemed to fail on them weather it was a washer, the controller or a power supply failure. The service was great but decided to switch.

Why?

I find Vortechs unreliable with long term use, I've had bearings go out (mainly on the mp10's) and a few propeller shafts wear out..

On the other hand my Tunze's are workhorses, and very reliable!

I bought a 6095 a little while ago. I love it.
The flow is easily as wide as an mp40. It's as quiet as you're going to get. No powerhead I've ever owned is as quiet. Plenty of flow with my koralia 1400 in my 90.

Does the tunze controller have the same options as the Eco techs?
I was on the fence about an MP40 but I am concerned about the long term quality.

You do you run with tunze controller? I dont want to make a standing wave. Would like to do something like reefcrest where flow increases and decreases. Maybe with 1 on each side?

I have the 7095 multicontroller. The multi will allow you to control pulse frequency and strength on a number of diff. Channels. The 7096 is the newer version that you plug into the computer. I've heard it's much more advanced.

You can also plug them in to Profilux, Apex, and other 3rd party controllers.

For me, the ability to control the output from, say 20% to 100% is plenty.

Im still wondering if the tunze controller will reduce and increase flow on its own like a vortech on reefcrest. I dont want the side to side swaying and dont want a standing wave. Just would like different flow at different intervals.

Take a look at the 7096. the 7095 doesn't really recreate the above, but again, it's not really necessary IMO. I don't know enough about the 7096 to comment on what it can and cannot do.

Further, I'm sure the Apex and Profilux controllers will be able to create whatever you'd like. I've heard it's even more advanced and allows for more functionality than even the Vortech Controller will allow.

Lol. Its a $200+ nano pump. Plus a $200+ apex or profilux... ill just let it run. Would do the $70 tunze controller but not if it only makes a pulsing wave.

Not really sure what's funny about the posts, but OK.. anyway, you have to remember, I'm just answering these posts in general. If someone really cares about the advanced controls, they might already have an Apex or Profilux unit, or they may be willing to shell out the extra cash, or purchase a 7096 controller. Who knows.. I personally don't really care about that level of control.... I like that I can have the powerhead run at 80% for a few minutes, then 30%. That works great for me. It doesn't look like a wave, but it probably could be setup pretty close to that.

Further, if you are already looking at the Vortechs, then the $200 complaint doesn't make sense, as the cheapest MP10 is $225. The 6095 is actually more comparable to the MP40's flow pattern, in that it's just as wide. Granted, it doesn't have quite the high-end GPH as the MP40, but it's certainly close. The flow on the 6095 is much broader than an MP10, and has slightly higher GPH ratings. I've had a number of MP40's and MP10's, (MP20's as well) for comparison, by the way.

The Tunze 6055 might suit your tank better, and they can usually be found for about $150 (used). What are the dimensions of your tank?
