I dont think you need anyting crazy ,you can get PC lighting and youll be fine ,i think ZOO Med make good bulbs for that ,(PC) ,unless your friend get the reef bugs and wants to upgrade later ,lol

Unless your friend decides to go SPS reef in the future (or has a lot of money to spend on electricity), there's no need for MHs. A T5 set-up would be great for fish only and it'd work for softies/LPs (if he decides to cross over).

if its fish only, u can use regular strip lighting. Its a lot cheaper, the 125 is 6ft long- its going to require 2 strip lights (they don't make them at 72'') the 120 is 4 ft and u can get anything for that size.

The real question is what does your friend plan on, if he's keeping fish only and will never put corals in the tank, then powerful lighting isn't required. If he's thinkin bout corals, then he should consider getting better lighting right off the bat.

T5 lighting is the most economical way to light a FO tank. With a 6 ft tank, you can brightly light your tank with two 80w 5 ft T5 bulbs. Bulb life is longer, cheaper to replace than four 96w PC bulbs and uses less energy while dissipating less heat also.
