fish keep disappearing HELP

in my 40 ive been missing fish a small lt tang and a blue dot jawfish. its getting frustrating. i see no dead body or even the hermits all in one place. idk if its my corals eating them i have a wall hammer and a welso everything else is zoas and sps. i have a lid on the top with absolutely no holes no way for them to escape. pls someone help. the only thing i can think of is wall hammer or wellso eating them. i caught my wellso eating my cardinal. but the tang and jawfish are alot bigger. 4-5" jawfish. and 3" lt tang

Do you have a starfish? I was losing fish every month. Then one day I saw my brittle with my brand new wrasse wrapped up under its mouth. Got rid of it and have not had a problem since.

Anemones?
Are the fish eating before they died? Did you literally see food enter them and not get spit out?
Did you check the floor thoroughly for jumpers? Jawfish jump like crazy.
post your nitrate nitrite ammonia phos levels?
Sump? Canister?

You know, obvious details that might help us other than 'oh im losing fish...'

No anemones yea the were all eating like pigs not spitting it out. Especially the tang. Amm-0 nitri-0 nitra-.4 phosphate -.01. Salinity 1.025. I have a sump refugium with dsb and caluerpa. Chemipure as well sown there and a bubble magistrate nac3+.

Stupid question but have you checked your sump? Maybe they went for a ride down your overflow

No room for them to go there and if they did the sock would've caught it n I just replaced it. The only thing I can think of is the wellso or wall hammer more the wellso

Don't see a wellso being able to catch a tang unless the fish was sick

There are times that a fish will die in the rocks never to be seen again, unless of course you dismantle your rock work.

It is weird! How long did you have these fish? Are there other fish in the tank?

If a fish dies and you don't see it floating around then chances are the critters in your tank will dispose of it without your seeing anything. Blastos and hammers can't catch fish unless they are dead.

Yes a helfriechi and a lil clown goby both fine eating and swimming around.

Yea but usually u will see all the hermits go to one place and eat the dead body. I don't see that and my tank is barebottom so I look through underneath and see no lost fishies.

If you see the fish doing VERY fine the day before they disappear, I usually blame it on a baby crab growing larger. I have caught crabs that break and eat my corals without adding anything to the tank like half a year. They are VERY stealthy, you usually only see them when you start to realize there is something wrong upon missing one thing or another.
