How hight from the water surface do you keep the leds? And is there a reason for diffrent hights? is there more covarage when they are higher or lower?

I think the height depends on the led and what you have in the tank

The higher you take them the maore spread you will get but you loose par to the sand bed. less intensity. Picture a flash light close to a surface and then start slowly lifting it away from the surface. intensite goes down but you get a bigger spred of light.

12" AWL is ideal for a perfect spread using a 12" unit..Depending on your optic selection and LED wattage..

From most people I have talked to there is actually an optimal distance off the water that LEDs work the best. This distance is different over different models.

You could place them wherever they give the best spread and coverage but to truely optimize them you would have to check with the manufacturer.
