I have a terrible hair algae problem. I just added a fuge with some cheato and it is finally, FINALLY starting to get under control. Now that its slowed down, I am gonna use a toothbrush on my rocks and destroy this evil algae once and for all.

My main tank is full of nutrients but my hair and micro aglae does "NOT" cause real problem. The combination of macro algae: caulaper, chaeto, and red grape do out compete the hair algae and other micro algae leaving my blenny starving.:headache: . Luckily he seems to know he can eat the red grape recently when there is less and less of microalgae.

TYPO: I mean "NOT" somehow omitted in earlier post

Also, the foxface I have seem to be very keen in eating hair algae.

I just got an lawnmower blenny as well as a Kole Tang and I can see some slow improvements. I'm thinking of adding a Yellow Tang as well as a Hippo Tang in hopes they can help along the process. I think there are a lot of diffrent methods out there but I know how you feel. It takes time and lots of patience.

A buddy of mine had a terrible hair algea problem. He tried all the listed above to no avail. He finally got rid of it by accident. He changed his media in his calcium reactor to schuran media that is much more powerful and phosphate free unlike ARM. He didnt check the ALk for 2 days and when he finally did it was off the charts higher then the test kit tested for. He shut down the reactor and brought his levels down over the next few days. Luckly none of his SPS corals or fish had any issues but the funny thing was it whacked all of his hair algea. When i say all his tank was getting taken over by it. Now it has been several months and no signs of it coming back. While I would not suggest doing this it did work when everything else failed.
