Any member who is currently, or in the past i guess, run a system with bare bottom: did you put anthing under the rock to protect glass? if so what?
i am getting ready to set up my new tank and debating the sand idea. the member i picked up the tank from had a few barebottom set ups and they looked really sharp

Great idea! I'm gonna paint the bottom of my 20 bb.;) Almost put sand in to block the sump light from lighting the tank at night, which is creating green film algae on the the bottom glass. Other then that I have no complaints.

Acrylic can warp. I would just order a piece of starboard. How large is your tank? As far as colors, you can get white, sand, black, blue even..

I've used thecuttingboardcompany.com twice now and have been very pleased.

BB is bare bottom. - no substrate on bottom of tank
Topic can be cause for debate, like most things it comes down to preference i guess. Bb can also limit ability to keep certain live stock

Acrylic might be better option starboard is pricey, didn't realize til I checked online. I recall a post discussing spray paint that was safe to use for inside aquarium? If i remember correctly someone sprayed PVC pipes that were in the tank... Anyone know what I'm talking about?

If you go with acrylic, make sure it is VERY thick. Acrylic will warp overtime if it's too thin.

I've heard of people spray painting things like overflow boxes, but there's no way I'm putting something that's been spray painted inside the tank. I just don't trust it at all.
