Reef vs FOWLR

I just bought a 120g Long tank from Pat (fishman1069) this weekend. I'm thinking of going FOWLR for this tank but I'm still not sure yet... I've only done reef setups in the past so I'm curious what differs with a FOWLR on the filtration side? I'll still have a sump with a skimmer and I'm guessing a refugium is still a good idea but is there anything else different other than lower lighting needs?
