I set up a 29 g with a bout 35 lbs of rock I'm using a eshops psk 75 h skimmer a mereinland 300 power filter with the bio wheel removed tanks bin running for 2 weeks now and today i saw some brown algae on the sand i tested the phosphates very low in between 0 and 5 ppm hard to tell so i true some phoslock in the filter wen should i test again?

Need more info. Do you have live rock, was it cured. What about sand. What are you doing to create ammonia. At this point just worry about ammonia, nitrites and nitrates.

20lbs cured live rock about 10lbs base rock that was dry 2 inch deep live sand.

Tested today nitrites 0ppm nitrates 5ppm?

Test still look good but a hack of a lot of brown diatom never had it this bad be for i hope i just got lucky on mi other tank and nothing is going wrong on this one.

I'm the furthest from an expert but in my experience if you change the direction of your powerhead more towards some rock has lowered the amount of diatom build up , but then again I could have gotten lucky as well

Just wondering iv bin using RO for water filtering for a number of years now and it never concerned me in the beginning but lately with the rising price of water and we all know how wasteful these units are has any one herd of anything new on the horizon that mite be more efeshint here were we live the surer is charged to the amount of water that gos true the meter so its a double whammy wen we use the RO.
