Noisy overflow

Hey all, I am new to the world of saltwater tanks and reefs and decided I was going to start at the very bottom and work my way to the top...literally!!!
I started my tank from the ground up by building everything myself. (except the tank). It's a 115g tank. I built the base, canopy, sump, plumbed it and aqua scaped it. I am proud to announce that there are zero leaks and everything is working as planned, EXCEPT, the overflow. it sounds like a waterfall. I've adjusted the hole in the durso, so i don't get the "toilet bowl" effect, but its still loud. Can someone please shed some light on this and tell me what i did wrong and how to fix this. (Once I figure out how to post pix i will)

Sounds like your return pump may be putting to out to much water. do you have a shut off valve on the return pipe. if you do try dialing it down a touch. if not that maybe lowering the durso a bit

yes i put a shut off on the return. i will dial it down a bit and see what happens...

i didnt have the time to work on it this weekend but i did get some info on a different type of stand pipe that i will build today that will fit inside in overflow and give me the height i need

put one of those ac Sponges over inlet pipe in overflow , should do the trick
