That statement really sums up a lot of what I been feeling during and after Sandy...with people unable to reach loved ones and others struggling to keep their salty friends going through this crisis. The inconvenience of gas lines and pain in the a** commuting are nothing compared to the sense of dread and helplessness you feel when the next tank went down and another guy on the pit of despair with no way to get gas or one more pair of D batteries. I didn't know when I'd felt that way before till you said that, but I knew it was something I'd been through before. I've only met a few people from this forum but definitely feel more connected as we battled through this.
I think the lessons learned are huge, hopefully the next round, people will remember. Keep that eBay light fixture or older skimmer...do an extra water change! At this point I would put a generator AND a few gas containers as a requirement for this hobby, along with a good enough inverter to run your heater, return and pumps, along with batteries. It's so easy to say its just fish, but you don't realize the investment we've all made in each one of them through quarantine and hoping they get along, and learning their behaviors, until they are gone or going. Let alone those fuzzy sticks that grow sooo damn slow!
Anyway, we've all learned something here, but the main thing I learned is that MR has a lot of people ready to step up to the plate and help those in need, and not just get the best lowball price on used equipment! This forum got me through those hours when my power was out, and through the week that followed (in what I joked at work was PSTD...get it, post sandy?). Thank you to those that stepped up, my prayers are with those who took losses, and my cheers to those that battled through!
Thank you MR!
