Hey everybody

I need to be sure I have enough sand for my tank so I would like some input. The tank has a footprint of 48x24 (like standard 120g) and I have one 40lb bag of Fiji Pink sand. I need only about 1" of substrate, will that be enough? Please share your experience, thanks.

Thanks everyone, I'll stay with the 40lb bag, I just need enough sand for the wrasse to get comfy:)

Marcin, IMO a 1" sandbed is too shallow for a sand burrowing wrasse. Can it work? Sure, if the wrasse sleeps on its side in the sandbed. If it sleeps upright then the sandbed would be too shallow.

Besides, the RC sandbed calculator mentions a number of types of CaribSea sands that are ~70 lbs per cubic foot, but the list doesn't include Fiji Pink. I believe the Fiji could be 90 lbs per cubic foot which would then calculate out to 60 lbs of Fiji Pink to achieve the 1" depth.

Hope that didn't totally confuse you.

No, I actually checked this calculator to be sure. Maybe I'll order one 20lbs bag just to be sure. Does anybody in Brooklyn has any Fiji Pink Sand left for sale?

I used around 60lbs. of CaribSea Aragonite Seaflor Special Grade Reef Sand for a 1 to 2" sand bed in my 6' 155 gal. bow front. My one & only wrasse "Christmas Wrasse" seems happy.;)
