Hay guys,

I was wondering how you guys hang your ATI fixture to the ceiling with the hanging kit that comes with the light? The freaking fixture is so well built and weights a ton. I was thinking you just get a long screw and screw part of the nuts into the stud/plank and screw tight to the nut part, but i remember the stud is pretty narrow the way how the subfloor are support. And it's kind of hard to find the studd. Thanks in advance.

I'm kind concern the light fixture falls onto my tank after mounting it for a while....lol! Last thing i need is the light tumble down onto my tank, that'll be the end of my hobby.

Another question, how high do you keep your fixture from the water service?

Hey Sam, why not make light rails from conduit pipe that way you dont have to drill holes in your ceiling?

Tony,

Can you elaborate a little bit more how it is done? Do you mount the light rail to the back of the tank stand? and how do you do it with conduit pipe as i'm not too handy, having somone do it or do you bend those stuff yourself? I want a clean look, most importan of all.

I bought two of these toggle bolts to put in the ceiling and it looks flawless (buy the AI hanging kit they sell). It's a pretty simple setup. I think the hardest part was the AI is metric and the bolt was English. Nothing a drill cant fix.

The metal pipe method as posted previously are a lot more work and dont look as good hanging.

I hang my led lights with these as well, but are the ATI fixture too heavy using these that hangs on the dry wall only?

Yeah, just get the largest toggle bolts that will fit. mine have been hanging for 1.5 years now without issue. I even knock into then from time to time.

I dont remember the exact set up. Id have to see the AI hanging kit to jog my memory.

I would not use a toggle bolt, mainly because its scares me to death with lighting above my tank crashing into my tank. i used a stud finder, find your stud and get a long deck screw i would say at least 3 inches and use the hardware that came with the fixture. Dont get me wrong you can use toggle bolts i just dont feel comfortable doing so. Good Luck any other questions feel free to ask :)

my lights are about 13" from the bottom of the unit to the top of the water line. I have a 80 gallon rimless with a 8 x 54w ATI fixture. It depends on what corals you are looking to keep and how many bulbs you are running.

Tony your right but some people don't have access to studs where there hanging lights then there also the the issues of centering the lights with studs

Ok, so if a stud isnt DIRECTLY and perfectly above your tank, then what? You want me to screw a 16"-24" 2x4 to my ceiling then hang the fixture from that?

http://www.aquaillumination.com/sol/specs.html

So you dont trust TWO 2"+ toggle bolts to hold up 4 pounds? Or 8 if you have 2 AIs. Assuming two, each bolt only has to support 4 pounds...

how old is your ceiling? built in the 1800s? come on.

I am actually doing just that but will be using a piece of painted white pine. I may even put some track conduit up so I can move the light from to back if needed but that's if I feel ambitious! My tank is not centered under a stud and I cant move the tank as it is well established.

He said Ati fixture. And stated in his opinion weighed a ton. Not 4 to 8 lb.

Cool, man. That sounds awesome.

I was referring, though, to the OPs request that he wants it to look seamless. Seamless is not having a painted 2x4 screwed into your ceiling. :flirt:

I also have a vesa mount for my 15-20lb 24" LCD monitor that uses toggle bolts to hold it in the wall. The mount arm extends out 12" which increases the pressure on the bolts, and they still have been holding for over a year and I frequently move the mount arm around.

To not trust two bolts with a static 8-12 pounds is silly.
